Egypt the land of Pharos has such a magical charm and attraction in it that anyone that has visited this gorgeous country once surely wishes to make another journey to it. But the ultimate attraction of the country is the pyramids built by the pharos of the middle and new kingdoms of Egypt. One place in particular is hard to miss out on because of the numbers of these pyramids and that’s the famous Luxor. Each year thousands of tourists swarm Luxor to see some of the most stunning historical artifacts and architecture of the ancient Egypt.
The present city of Luxor is small if you compare it with the rest of the Egyptian cities but it is one with the best infrastructure and facilities in the country including its own small airport. You can get a cheap flight to Luxor from many of the regional airports but if you are flying from Europe then most probably you will first be landing in Cairo the capital of the country and then will get a connecting flight to Luxor. There are quite a few hotels in the city that caters to all kind of tourists ranging from the ones looking for luxury to the ones that are trying to save some cash by lodging in a budget accommodation facility. Although the most of the tourists attractions are located outside the town but the museum of Luxor is worth visiting as it has some of the most unique and precious artifacts unearthed from the pyramids.
The first place that most tourists head to outside the city to is the gigantic complex of sanctuaries, obelisks, pylons and kiosks called Karnak. It covers an area of 2 sq km and has 10 large cathedrals dedicated to ancient gods of the ancient Egypt. It is recommended that you hire the services of a seasoned guide to take you on a tour of the complex and to brief you about the history of the place. The early hours of the day are the best time for this tour as the mercury rise quite a bit as the day progress and the temperature gets a little unbearable especially in the summer time.
Valley of the Kings that stretches for miles is the next big attraction of Luxor with its 65 tombs of the kings and princes of ancient Egypt. Each one of these tombs has its own unique architecture and the grandeur and majesty of these structures will surely make you gasp. The oldest of the tombs are in the western end of the valley which according to archeologists dates back to more than 2000 BC. The most magnificent of these temples is the Hatshepsut temple that is located in the middle of the desert and is a historical treasure in itself.
