If you fly from the UK to Egypt quite often, you know the drill. A connection, a long layover, and a day consumed even before you make it to your destination.
The new route announcement from EgyptAir fills the gap with its direct flights from Birmingham Airport (BHX) to Cairo International Airport (CAI), marking the only non-stop service between Birmingham and CAI.
There will be four weekly flights throughout the year, on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. Star Alliance Member EgyptAir will use the Boeing 737 MAX 8, and the flight time will be only 5 hours.
Why it matters
Birmingham already offers flights to Red Sea resort destinations, i.e., Hurghada and Sharm el Sheikh. Now adding to the list, Cairo is a primary destination for diaspora travel, business travel, and history buffs. The new route is being established to strengthen connections between the Midlands and Egypt for business travel and tourism. Birmingham is now the third UK gateway, after London and Manchester.
