The human nature is very curious and he always feels the need to explore and to know why things are the way, they are. The Old City possesses a great history is an eminent ancient place to tempt such people. It is a walled area of 0.9 square kilometres that was built by King David in 1004 B.C.E. and is situated in the modern city of Jerusalem. Due to the glorious history of the ancient buildings, towering stone walls and the sacred atmosphere that surrounds the holy sites of Christian, Muslim and Jewish religion, it is considered to be the centre of the world. So if you want to witness part of history then take cheap flights to Tel Aviv<\/a> and see this world heritage site as declared by UNESCO. As there are no flights to Jerusalem, so flights go to Tel Avive which is 30 to 45 minutes drive away from Jerusalem. From the Airport means of transportation available are a private taxi or for less money a sherut, or group taxi.<\/p>\n

Traditionally, the city is divided into four quarters:<\/p>\n

Muslim Quarter- the Muslim quarter is the most popular and the largest of all the four quarters and is located in the north-east of the Old City. The major population that lives here is of Yeshivat Ateret Cohanim.<\/p>\n

Christian Quarter- Along the western wall, the Christian quarter is situated on the north-west of the Old City. Church of the Holy Sepulchre which is considered to be one of the holiest places of Christians is also situated here.<\/p>\n

Armenian Quarter- It is the smallest one of all the four quarters. Although the Armenians are Christians but they are dissimilar to the Christian quarter.<\/p>\n

Jewish Quarter- The residents call this quarter as Harova and it is located in the south-east of the Old City. This quarter has the outdoor parks and museums that display the archaeological remains which are a source of great attraction for the tourists.<\/p>\n

Other than this there are many other fascinations for the visitors, some of them are:<\/p>\n

Gates- There are seven open gates that are being used through the historical period and their names are New gate, Herod\u2019s gate, Damascus Gate, Dung Gate, Zion Gate, Lion\u2019s gate and Jaffa gate. And the sealed gates are Single gate, Double gate, Golden gate and Huldah gate.<\/p>\n

The Ramparts- To get a different perspective the tourists can also climb on the top of the ramparts. Not only do you get a unique look at how people live inside but also a spectacular view of the city behind the walls. The route along the walls is accessible through Zion, Lion\u2019s and the Damascus gates, though the entrances are difficult to find but value the effort.<\/p>\n
