It started as a small settlement by the Japanese entrepreneurs back in the 19th<\/sup> century who was interested in the wealth that the water around Broome has in form of the pearls. Later the Malay and Chinese arrive in the area mostly working as the laborers and some doing the dangerous job of diving in the deep sea to collect the pearls from the bottom, considering that back in the time of these divers there was no diving kit available it was a very dangerous job and many of the divers died either by drowning or because of the attacks by the sharks. You will still find a few families around Broome running the pearl business locally, which at one time was providing the 80 per cent of the total pearls produced in the world.<\/p>\n

Broome is a major town of Western Australia so it has its own airports but there are not many direct flights to Broome so if you are travelling from outside of Australia then you\u2019ll have to take a cheap flight to Perth<\/a> and then a local flight to Broome. There are a number of activities for you in the city; the first can be to have a look at the pearl part of the city. For that, you can take a tour of the different pearl farms in the water around the city. A tour of the city museum will give you complete information regarding the history of the place and the pearl trade.<\/p>\n

But if you are there just to relax and enjoy a peaceful vacation in its marvellous landscape then head to Roebuck Bay or to the Cable Beach.
