People are residing here for more than 1,300 of years. Abdul Aziz, the great professor of University Brunei Darussalam, declared it to be the most famous and the largest water settlement of south-east\u00a0 Asia and quoted;<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><em>\u201cIt was historically the very core of Brunei and one of the most important centres of trade in Borneo\u201d<\/em><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>While taking a visit around Kampong Ayer, tourists can also see other attractions such as:<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Makam Di Luba<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p>Makam means a royal grave or mausoleum normally of a great man or woman. The Makam is the grave of the 16<sup>th<\/sup> Sultan of Brunei named Husain Kamaluddin and it is located in an island in the centre of Pulau Luba River, which separates River Damaun and much larger River Brunei.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Jong Batu<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p>Jong Batu is a rock outgrowth which is 20 metres long and 15 metres wide, located in Brunei River. It has been created in such a way that when viewed from the coasts of Brunei River, it looks like a sinking ship with the bow coming through the water. Tourists consider it to be a very popular area for sight-seeing.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Proboscis Monkey<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p>This long-nosed monkey also known as Bekantan in Malay, is a reddish-brown monkey found in this area of Brunei. The most distinctive feature of this monkey is its long nose which is used to take its name.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Muara Beach<\/span>:<\/p>\n<p>Muara is an ideal destination for a family gets together. It has a calm, long path which is idealised by the people for walking. The climate of Brunei is hot, cold, warm tropical and wet with heavy rain falls. The temperature usually remains high but in the coastal regions, the sea breeze moderates the heat. March and April are considered to be the hottest but in the rest of the months, it remains normal with rain falls. The people of Kampong Ayer are very hospitable, friendly and always offer a warm welcome to the visitors.
