First rule of the thumb states never to expect your travelling experiences to be the same as you did when travelling alone or with adults.

Now it depends on you in which direction you steer this to, either a more pleasant or a more horrific experience. So in order to prepare you for the journey, we have compiled a list of some of the things you need to take care of that may help you ease your journey through and make it all the more pleasant for not only you but also your children.

(c) Evgeny Atamanenko via shutterstock.com

Prepare yourself for the flight

When it comes to boarding an airplane with kids, you really need to think things through. Now depending on the age of your children, it is always a better idea to pack them their separate hand bags that will include all their essential items. Ah yes, remember, what you consider unessential might be considered essential by them.

So make sure you not only include their favorite past time toys but also slip in something new that will keep them occupied for a time being until they get bored of that too. Remember, including one fancy toy for one and a not-so-fancy one for the other is a big no you don’t want your other kid to start whining or any quarrelling on an airplane with hundreds of other passengers in need of some peace.

You may also want to slip in some good activity books in their backpacks like puzzles, dot-to-dot, activity including stickers etc. letting your kids’ pack their backpacks might also be a bad idea. So make sure you assist them and refrain from packing nonessentials that may make it too heavy to carry.

When travelling with an infant, a separate handbag that includes their entire needed items can also be handy.

(c) Minerva Studio via shutterstock.com

Things to remember when booking your flight

While you may prefer a direct flight when travelling on a long-haul flight, you might want to rethink that concept when you’re travelling with your children. While this wouldn’t matter if you’re travelling with an infant, but when travelling with other age-groups of children a stop-over in your long-haul flights might be a better idea. This will help them relieve their stress and stretch their muscles.

(c) mexrix via shutterstock.com

Book your hotel well in advance

There isn’t anything worse than hopping from one hotel to another with all your luggage and already tired and nagging kids.
