British Airways will resume flights to Sri Lanka\u2019s capital Colombo after a gap of 15 years. The airlines had halted flights to Sri Lanka since 1998 in light of the government\u2019s civil war against the Tamil Tiger Rebels (L.T.T.E), which ended with the latter\u2019s defeat in 2009.<\/p>\n

Colombo flights<\/a><\/strong> will start from the 31st<\/sup> of March next year from London\u2019s Gatwick airport. British Airways Managing Director at the airport, Silla Maizey, described it as a \u2019fantastic and exciting opportunity\u2019, adding that tourist influx from Britain to Sri Lanka ranked only second to India in numeral superiority.<\/p>\n

The flights will run three times a week with a lone stopover made on another island nation in the Indian Ocean, Maldives. The stopover at Male makes the total duration of the Colombo-bound flight to twelve and a half hours.<\/p>\n

Male and Sri Lanka are both regarded as the Asian chieftains when it comes to the beaches and tropical resorts reputable in the global tourism industry. In fact, entire Holiday packages have been made available for customers of British Airways for their stay in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n
