A variety of new animal species was introduced in addition to the existing variety of animals after Saadani became a game reserve including the zebras, wildebeests, elands, elephants, giraffes, buffalos, the rare Roosevelt\u2019s-stable-antelope and lions.<\/p>\n<p>It was 2003 when the Saadani was upgraded to the latest National Park in Tanzania under TANAPA\u2019s directions with its boundaries expanding to include the land north of Mligaji. Mlihaji is an important area to be included as it\u2019s the only area which contains permanent populations of the elephants and also home to the rare sable antelopes. Other areas included were the North Mkawaja, Wami river\u2019s south and the Zaraninge forest which are famous for the variety of indigenous vegetation as well as bird and animal species. At present the total protected area covers more than 1,000 square kilometers with the TANAPA HQ also based in the Mkwaja ranch.<\/p>\n<p>You can find beachfront luxury accommodations at the View Safari Lodge and transport will also be arranged by them for Zanzibar and Dar-es-Salaam.
