Contrary to the name, the city is quite busy full of activity. Although the city doesn\u2019t have an official status of being Tanzania\u2019s capital, in practice it is as the President and the cabinet-ministers spend most of their time in this city and head offices of many of the Govt. organizations can also be found here. The Sultan of Zanzibar was the founder of the city who needed a mainland port in the nineteenth century. The main primary sites to visit in the city are either in the city centre or not far from it and include the colorful Kariakoo Market and the clock tower. You may also like to visit the Botanical Gardens and the National Museum.<\/p>\n<p>The Village Museum located at a distance of about ten kilometers from the city centre is also a place worth visiting and you can reach there while traveling along the road to Bagamoyo. Oyster Bay is the closest beach to the capital and you can find many other beaches too along the coast while moving further north including the South Ciast which is being developed and hosts nice beaches.<\/p>\n<p>The university can be found on the hills also known commonly as mlimani located at the north west of the city-centre which was one a rural land but presently is encircled by the rapidly developing city.<\/p>\n<p>Dar-es-Salam offers its visitors with plenty of choices for entertainment and you may enjoy city\u2019s restaurants, bars and the lovely beaches of course. The Water Parks are also worth a visit and attracts tourists with their affordable prices.<\/p>\n<p>Now here is the interesting part of being in Dar-es-Salam that you can plan and go for a fascinating trip in Zanzibar which can be easily reached through the ferry that\u2019ll pick you up from the Harbor near the Forodhani Primary School and drops you off in Zanzibar. The trips take about four hours and you are sure to enjoy while traveling with wonderful sceneries so don\u2019t forget to take some spectacular photos to capture your memories.
