Floating down from the sky, the Verreaux\u2019s Touraco is located in the Kakum National Park of Ghana and is Africa\u2019s only canopy-walkway suspended about a hundred feet above the ground. The canopy-walkway settles subtly a few feet near the Kuntan tree which is one of the tallest in the forest canopy. You can\u2019t see it if you are at the forest\u2019s floor. When you are at the other end, it doesn\u2019t take much to recognize the colourful patterns of the tropical birds gliding through the forest below. The interesting thing is that you don\u2019t even need to climb-up as it basically starts from ground-level with the land below gradually sloping into a valley and in the end, you surprisingly find yourself twelve-stories-high in the forest canopy. While you are walking through it you\u2019ll notice it\u2019s made of horseshoe-like bridge patterns which are made of steel-cable, narrow wooden planks and netting connected by tree-platforms serving observation-points to view the rainforest. In order to get back on the ground, you just have to circle back.<\/p>\n

The slight swaying is very intimidating but it gives incredible excitement to walk along it and the experience is adrenaline filled and not suitable for those having a fear of height. Although by appearance it may look scary its build with keeping under consideration all the safety standards. Apart from the adventure itself, you can have a chance to see about 300 different colourful species of birds and 500 species of butterflies hosted by the forest canopy. What\u2019s interesting about those creatures is that most of them have never set their feet on the forest ground. You may also hear leaves rustling distantly when monkeys travel through the forest but chances of actually seeing them are very slim as they are very elusive in nature.<\/p>\n

The local culture further makes the experience more memorable with their mythical stories and practices like a bamboo orchestra in which the local residents of the Masomagor community beat the drum and illustrate different stories through elaborate-dances for your viewing pleasure. The Kakum National Park is a very good example of a biologically-diverse ecosystem having its unique value from both local and international perspective making the forest a very important priority from a conservation point of view. The local people have restricted the use of forest\u2019s resources as the forest has gained the status of the national park but the income generated through tourism makes that up easily.<\/p>\n
