By definition, an Island is a body that is surrounded by water, and so is Mauritius all coasts wrapped in the Indian Ocean.  However, to give you a complete picture (continent wise) of its location let me tell you that Mauritius falls in the African Continent. The African Continent is towards the Southeast of the Island, while Indian Ocean is widespread towards the Southwest and around 900 km East is the Island of Madagascar, making the ‘boat away’ neighborhood of Mauritius.
