U.S. Port Seeks Partnership With Nigeria |

The Port of Houston in Texas, United States is seeking
partnership with Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) to
facilitate international trade
.One of its commissioners and U S-based Nigerian
entrepreneur,Mr Kase Lawal, made this known at the
weekend in Houston, after he conducted Nigeria's First
Lady, Hajiya Turai Yar'Adua on a boatride of the port .Lawal,
who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said
"We are the largest sea port in America with a cargo
volume of 95 billion dollars annually, so we have the
capacity to assist Nigerian ports."
"We are ready to assist Nigeria by giving technical
expertise and equipment to improve the performance of
the Nigerian ports to meet up with current international
challenges," he said.He, however, called on the Nigerian
private sector to be in the forefront of promoting
partnerships with theircounterparts in the U.S. to boost
Nigeria's socio-economic development He said the Houston Port
handles most of the crude oil imports from Nigeria
to the U S, as well as some exports to Nigeria.
"So, in that regard, we need
to collaborate in order to enhance trade relations
and create businesses to boost the Nigerian
economy".On the First Lady's pet project, the Women
and Youth Empowerment Foundation (WAYEF), Lawal
urged the private sector to support the initiative,
in order to better the health of women, children and
the youths in Nigeria.
NAN reports that the Nigerian
businessman, who has been living in Houston for more
than 20years, has investments in the oil and gas
industry.
