Jetstar plans cheap flights to Europe

Cheap air fares to southern Europe are back on the cards after Qantas gave low-cost offshoot Jetstar the green light to lease at least four more Airbus A330s.The low-cost carrier had planned to go to Europe using the Boeing 787 Dreamliner but had to shelve the idea when the composite plane was delayed, reports The Australian.

It is now looking at using the A330s on the route as part of wider plans that could also see it flying to the US and increasing its services to Asia.Delivery of the new planes begins in November next year and the move will bring Jetstar’s A330 fleet to 11.It could also get a fifth leased A330-220.

Jetstar chief executive Bruce Buchanan said a design change in the A330s meant new versions of the plane would have a greater payload capability.”And that enables us to do, effectively, the southern European ports without any passenger restrictions on the aircraft,” he said.”So that means the 330’s now a viable vehicle for us for southern Europe.”
