Hartsfield : Flights resumed after 40 minute groundstop

Flights have resumed at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport after a 40-minute groundstop halted flights Sunday evening around 9 p.m., according to airport officials.Delays, however, continue at the airport. Arrival and departure delays of 46 minutes to more than two hours were reported throughout Sunday night by the Federal Aviation Administration Web site.
Travelers are advised to check with their air carrier for specific flight information as the airport continues to monitor weather conditions.Sunday storms left more than 6,000 Georgia Power customers throughout Metro Atlanta without power, according to spokesman Mark Williams. The thunder, rain and lightning-filled weather is expected to return between midnight and 4 a.m. Monday, forecasters said.
“A lot of rain is being dumped in these storms,” said National Weather Service Meteorologist Robert Beasley. “There will be some street flooding at the minimum.”A large oak tree fell into a Powder Springs home Sunday, narrowly missing two children watching television inside, according to WSB-TV. The boys were not injured in the fall and, with their parents, are receiving assistance from The American Red Cross in Cobb County.
Flooding was reported in some parts of DeKalb County. Two cars were trapped in rising waters Sunday off of Mountain Industrial Boulevard in Tucker. No one was injured in the incident at Hirsch Drive, according to witnesses and Dekalb County Fire and Rescue Spokesman Capt. Eric Jackson. Witnesses said water was as high as vehicle doors.
Road work on U.S. 78 was canceled Sunday night due to heavy rains, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.FOX 5 is reporting fallen trees and damaged cars in Northwest Atlanta.
