Arik Air has begun to operate scheduled services from Ilorin to both Lagos and Abuja .According to the airline’s General Manager, Sales and Marketing, Suraj Sundaram, who made the announcement in Lagos yesterday, the airline would operate five and three weekly flights to Lagos and Abuja from Ilorin respectively.

Sundaram stated that the Ilorin-Lagos and Ilorin-Abuja services would help reinforce Ilorin ’s existing north-south gateway status and strengthen its appeal as a regional commercial hub.”It will also offer a highly attractive alternative to existing users of surface transport. Arik Air recognises the role aviation plays in helping to develop stronger intra-state economic ties. In recent years, Kwara State has witnessed increased investment in industrial activity, especially pharmaceuticals, food production and flour milling.

“Arik Air’s new services between Ilorin and the country’s leading commercial hub, Lagos and the Federal Capital, Abuja will serve to increase further Kwara State ’s attractiveness to investors. Arik Air will also provide travellers with a quick, comfortable and affordable alternative to the long journeys by road,” said Sundaram.

He disclosed that Arik Air offers 120 flights each day across its network and currently serves 20 airports within Nigeria from both Lagos and Abuja .”We also fly from Lagos to six West African countries as well as to London and Johannesburg . Arik Air can therefore offer travellers from Ilorin a choice of onward domestic, regional and international connections that no other airline can match,” Sundaram added.

Currently too, the airline serves 20 airports across Nigeria , with Ilorin as the 21st. It also flies to Accra (Ghana), Banjul (Gambia), Cotonou (Benin), Dakar (Senegal), Freetown (Sierra Leone), Niamey (Niger), London Heathrow (UK) and Johannesburg (South Africa).
