Getting there to Tioman
From Mersing or Tanjung Gemuk,
Tioman Island is just a 3 to 4
hour boat ride away. If you
prefer a shorter comfortable
ride, air-conditioned fast
ferries which depart daily can
make the trip in approximately 2
hours. From Singapore, a
catamaran (Ferry) service makes
the 41/2 hour trip from Finger
Pier daily (except Wednesday).
Visitors
who don't enjoy sea travel can
make the trip to Tioman by air
from either Kuala Lumpur or
Kuantan via Pelangi Air. Flights
from Kuala Lumpur depart daily,
while the Kuantan flight departs
daily (except Wednesday), both
trips take approximately 1 hour.
The shuttle flight from
Singapore departs daily from
Changi Airport and it is
operated by Trade winds Charter
Services.
To get about on and around the
island, visitors may choose to
trek, ride bicycle (which are
available from Berjaya Tioman
Beach Resort) for short
excursions or hire boats to get
to the surrounding islands and
reefs. Regular boat services ply
the villages (sea-buses) around
the island. |

Getting there to Tioman By
Air
Pelangi Air and Berjaya Air
operate daily flights into
Tioman from Kuala Lumpur. The
former also flies daily from
Singapore.
Getting there to Tioman By
Sea
Tioman is accessible by
passenger boat services from
Mersing in Johor. Mersing is a
pleasant town for its large
bustling fishing fleet. It is
also the setting-off point for a
large number of islands in the
South China Sea. The trip takes
one and a half hours. There is
also direct ferry services from
Singapore to the island.

Scuba Diving &
Snorkeling
Tioman Island is blessed
with sparkling blue
waters, beaches of fine
white sands, and
prolific coral gardens
fringing the coast.
Around the underwater
promontory, the water is
crystal clear as far
down as 100 feet. Within
the cool glassy depths
is a veritable
underwater paradise
teaming with a rich
variety of corals, fish,
and shells. Included
among these delights of
the deep are the
magnificent acropora
corals, delicate sea
fans, and the
alyconarian soft corals.
The multi-hued staghorn
coral can also be found
in abundance. Bright
colored fish swim among
the corals in flashes of
vivid neon hues. Among
these are the sweet
lips, cardinal fish,
parrot fish, wrasses,
butterfly fish, damsel
fish, and the aggressive
anemones fish. The
seemingly gentle sea
anemones beckons
gracefully with soft
gentle tentacles. Once
within its grasp there
is no escape for the
marine creatures.
The best known season
for diving here is
between May and October
when the water is at its
best. Bring along your
underwater camera for
some of the best
underwater shots of your
lifetime. Or just swim
amidst the colorful
underwater garden and
drink in the fascinating
sights. The popular
spots for scuba diving
and snorkeling are along
the shallow reefs at
Salang beach and the
nearby islands of Tulai
and Renggis.
