Wattay International Airport is one of the few international airports in Laos. It is located 3 km (2 mi) outside its capital, Vientiane.

The airport consists of an old and small domestic terminal and a new international terminal. There is a military (air force) installation at one end of the airport.

Getting to the city: The best way to the city is by taxi, which costs around $6 or 54,000 kip. Buy a coupon from the official Airport Taxi counter.
Car Rental: Two local car rental companies, Asia and BP, are represented at the airport. However visitors are advised not to hire a car, instead, if you need a car, hire a car with a driver through your hotel or travel agent. Taxis can be hired for approximately US$20 per day.
Facilities: Facilities at the airport include banks, bars, restaurants, duty-free, a post office and a couple of shops.
Departure Tax: Departure tax is now included in the price of the air ticket and no longer paid in cash on departure.
