London Gatwick Airport is amongst the busiest and largest single-runway airports in Europe, with almost 300,000 aircraft movements each year. Gatwick's two terminals are known as the North and South terminals and are home to many major airlines, such as British Airways, First Choice Airways, easyJet, Monarch Airlines, Thomsonfly and Virgin Atlantic.

Gatwick airport has 2 terminals, serving roughly 35 million passengers a year and flying to hundreds of destinations worldwide.

  1. The North Terminal is Gatwick's newest terminal, home to British Airways, and charter airlines First Choice Airways and ThomsonFly. Check in is located on the third floor of Gatwick's North Terminal.
  2. The South Terminal is Gatwick's oldest terminal, home to nearly 50 airlines handling domestic, international and charter flights.Check in desks are located on the right side of the Gatwick's South Terminal. 

You should arrive well in time for your flight to make sure you have enough time to go through security. The advised times are:

  • International flights - check in 3 hours prior to departure
  • European flights - check in 2 hours prior to departure
  • Domestic flights - check in 1 hour prior to departure


Both Terminals have facilities to take care of all kinds of travellers, including Business Travellers, those with Special Needs and those Travelling with Children. No flight announcement are made at Gatwick, so you need to check the television monitors listing flight departures for your boarding time and gate number. International connections do not require going through Immigrations or Customs but all International to Domestic connections do.

Airport Facilities:

Money and communications: Both terminals have bureaux de change and ATMs. There is a post office and a 24-hour Internet café in the South Terminal. Wireless Internet connection is also available throughout the airport.
Eating and drinking:
There are numerous restaurants, bars and cafés located in both terminals.
Shopping: There are many shops at the airport, including several duty-free outlets. The airport has also recently introduced a home delivery service and a collection service. More information is available from the BAA Shopping Information Line (tel: 0870 850 2825).
Luggage:
Left-luggage facilities are available in both terminals. A lost property service is also operated by the Excess Baggage Company (tel: (01293) 502 014 South Terminal or (01293) 502 013 North Terminal).
Other facilities: These include baby changing rooms and showers, a children’s play area, a medical centre offering vaccinations (tel: (01293) 507 400) and prayer rooms.

Parking: There is short-term car parking next to each terminal. Long-term parking is available further away; a shuttle bus runs between the car parks and the terminals. Passengers can book parking at least four days in advance on the airport website.
