The number two airport in the whole of Texas and currently ranking as the world's 17th busiest air facility, George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) sees upwards of 43 million passengers per year. Next to Bordersville, Humble and the Cypresswood Golf Club, and roughly 22 miles / 35 km north of central Houston, George Bush Airport features five separate passenger terminals and covers approximately 10,000 acres / 4,050 hectares.

Houston's airport offers plenty of transport options, allowing passengers to quickly reach downtown Houston, where you can expect to see many breathtaking skyscrapers towering high above the streets. Metro buses operate at the George Bush Airport and are run by the Houston Metropolitan Transit Authority, linking destinations such as the southerly Midtown area, the historical Heights area, the Theater district and the entertainment hub of Uptown.

Public airport buses also run to the Houston NASA Space Center, the nearby William P. Hobby Airport, and the city's Museum district, which is the biggest neighborhood of its kind in the whole of the USA. Many hotels operate a courtesy van service to and from the airport, while also popular are the various taxi cabs and a SuperShuttle service where passengers share vans. Close to George Bush Houston Airport, public transport also runs to College Station, Galveston, League City, Port Arthur and Texas City. Further away, San Antonio is sited directly west.

George Bush Houston Airport (IAH) Information: History and Facilities
In the early sixties, the city of Houston began to recognise the need for an additional airport, to share the ever increasing traffic at the busy William P. Hobby Airport. A site was chosen covering just over 3,000 acres / 1,215 hectares and construction soon commenced. In 1969, Houston International Airport, as it was then known, was officially inaugurated and its very first 12 months managed to successfully serve around 4.5 million passengers. In 1997, it was renamed and became the George Bush Houston Airport (IAH), honoring the nation's former president, who lives in Houston's exclusive Tanglewood district.

George Bush Houston Airport was always designed with the future in mind and onsite facilities more than meet the needs of passengers. There are over 50 restaurants and coffee shops, tourist information desks, Travelex counters, ADA facilities, many gift shops and numerous news-stands, which are always easy to find.
