People from around the world travel to this magical country Egypt and visit its splendid international airport in Cairo. Cairo International Airport situated 22km northeast of the city centre is one of the busiest airports in Africa. It was awarded the third most improved airport in 2010 by Skytrax World Airport Awards.
The international airport of Cairo is well equipped; however additions like a new terminal, metro line linking the airport with the city and a new runway are in the pipeline. Some of the facilities at the airport include:
-
Business facilities, internet access and meeting rooms -
VIP lounges -
Wheel chairs available on request -
24-hour money exchange facility, ATMs, bank and post office -
Restaurants and bars -
Duty free shopping and all kinds of clothes, gifts and bookshops -
Pharmacy and medical facilities -
Left luggage facility
The terminals of the airport are at quite a distance from each other so there is a free shuttle service that runs from one terminal to the other and costs nothing. It operates every half an hour. There is also a shuttle service going to all the major hotels to drop passengers.
Taxis are available to get to the city. Major car rental companies like Avis, Hertz, Budget and Europcar operate at the airport. Driving is not recommended in Cairo so renting a car with chauffer is advised.
A lot many airlines serve at Cairo International Airport (CAI) including Egypt Air (MS), Air France (AF), Lufthansa (LH), Austrian Airline (OS), British Midland BMI (BD), Alitalia (AZ), Emirates (EK), Ethiopian Airline (ET) and Turkish Airline (TK).
