A very modern airport terminal, Boise Airport (BOI) has numerous daily flights to major cities in the central and western parts of the United States, such as Denver, Chicago and San Francisco.
You will find it very easy to navigate the three-level terminal building, with Arrivals being located on Level 1, Departures on Level 2 and the Conference Center on Level 3.
Boise Airport's terminal is located just 5 miles / 8 km south of downtown Boise and close to both the Hillcrest Country Club and the Columbia Village Sports Park. The I-84 interstate edges the airport itself and heads in a north-south direction.
ocal taxis and Valley Ride buses, as well as commercial and courtesy shuttles, link the airport with downtown Boise and its many districts, such as the East End area, the North End neighborhood, the famed Old Boise Historic district, and the Garden City, which is known for its strong Chinese connection. Greyhound and Sun Valley coaches provide services from Boise Airport to regional locations, such as Nampa and the Idaho Falls.
Boise Airport (BOI) Information: History and Facilities
The city's very first airfield dates back to 1926 and was located on the exact site where the Boise State University currently resides. However, the Boise Airport (BOI) of today did not come into existence until more than ten years later, opening in 1938. At the time, the airport led the nation's aviation industry, featuring the country's longest runway, which measured almost 2,700 metres / 8,860 feet.
Today, Boise Airport is home to great business and postal facilities, while ATMs are conveniently located in the Ticket Lobby and next to the Food Court and there are some excellent restaurants and cafes. The main eateries include the Concourse Bar, Hyde Park Market and Deli, Maui Taco and the inviting Varsity Grill and Sports Bar. A newsagent provides a good selection of reading material, while the art gallery is perfect for killing time while you are waiting for your flight. Also worth finding is the Boise River Marketplace, where a range of gift ideas await you.
Most of Level 3 of the Boise Airport terminal building is taken up by the five conference rooms that make up the Snake River Conference Center, which has the latest in high-tech equipment, as well as on-site catering. Regular business services are adequately handled by the airport's business center on Concourse C, while postal and FedEx counters are located by the elevators on Level 2.
Getting to the city: Taxis, shuttles and ValleyRide buses into Boise are located at the lower level roadway outside baggage claim. The Sun Valley Express, a shuttle service for the three-hour trip to Sun Valley/Ketchum, is located at the first floor rotunda.
Car rental: Avis, Budget, Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz, National and Thrifty have counters in the rental car lobby on the first floor.
Facilities: Facilities at the airport include food and beverage outlets, newsstands, gift shops, ATMs, wireless Internet, business centres and a shoe-shine service.
Parking: Four parking options are available: short-term parking, garage parking, long-term surface parking and a remote lot with connecting shuttle service. The parking facilities accept cash, checks and some credit cards.
