Situated next to Bulwer Island, Lytton, Myrtletown and Pinkenba, and within the Eagle Farm area, Queensland's award-winning Brisbane Airport (BNE) features two asphalt runways and three terminals, cargo, domestic and international. With domestic airlines including Air South Charter, Macair Airlines, Qantas and Virgin Blue, most cities throughout Australia's territories and nearby New Zealand are well connected by Brisbane Airport.

Over 18 million people are currently flying through Brisbane Airport each year (almost 50,000 every single day) and this figure is steadily rising. To meet continual demand, a major expansion of the International Terminal is currently underway.

The most popular nearby destinations connected by Brisbane Airport are Adelaide, Bundaberg, Canberra, Gladstone, Mackay, Melbourne, Rockhampton, Sydney and Townsville. International favourites include Auckland, Christchurch, Dubai, Hong Kong, Nadi, Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Tokyo and Wellington.

A range of public transport is also on hand at Brisbane Airport and includes a central taxi rank along the front terminal road, a network of inter-terminal trains and long-distance 'Airtrains', and door-to-door buses, connecting hotels within central Brisbane, the Sunshine Coast and also the Gold Coast.

Brisbane Airport (BNE) Information: History and Facilities
Brisbane's very first two airports were established in the 1920s and comprised the Archerfield Aerodrome on the south-western side of the city centre, and a small runway in the suburb of Eagle Farm. Heavily used by the military during World War II, the Eagle Farm airfield quickly grew to become Brisbane's number one airport, only to be replaced by the current Brisbane Airport in the 1970s. The modern Brisbane Airport of today was built nearby and to the north, in the Cribb Island area.

In recent years and since being privatised in 1995, Brisbane Airport has grown greatly in size, to cope with increasing passenger levels. Currently the airport is being expanded at the cost of almost $350 million and this work is scheduled for completion in 2008, incorporating two new gates suitable for the Airbus A380 aircraft.

Many duty-free shops, popular speciality stores and eateries are available on level 2 of the Domestic Terminal, and also on levels 2, 3 and 4 of the International Terminal. For corporate travellers at Brisbane Airport, spacious airline lounges located in the airport's International Terminal building, include the Air New Zealand Lounge, the Qantas Club Lounge and also the Singapore Airlines Lounge.
